How We Got Started; thats a good question!
Growing up my Father was a part-time cabinet maker and had tons of woodworking equipment in the garage. I started tinkering in my early years and haven't stopped learning new things since. When I was a teen we would repair shopping carts for some of the local stores, that is when I learned welding basics. My Mother always had a love for antiques and collectibles and my Dad had numerous antique clocks and pocket watches. Spending weekends going to yard and estate sales became a regular activity.
After Dee and I were married to get us started my Mom gave us several antique pieces of furniture. Dee already enjoyed old stuff just as much as I did; she claims she is an "old soul". Since then we have bought and sold antiques or "wonderful junk" that we have collected during our many moves around the country.
The lighting phase started after Dee asked me to build a ceiling fixture for our dining room. Since then I have built close to a hundred distinct pieces of lighting and still have not run out of ideas. Each new piece of "junk" that I find helps inspire another lamp or piece of furniture. Dee is the "Fun" and I am the "Mad"; the partnership works out perfectly.
All of our pieces are individually designed and constructed with primarily salvaged and repurposed items. I like to use items found exclusively in Alaska but that don't always work out so I am always on the lookout while traveling around the world for bits and pieces that will add some flair!
